Did you know there are more than 450 species of native bees in the Mitten state? Learn about their not-so-secret lives and how we can help them survive and thrive. A richly documented PowerPoint presentation accompanies this presentation.

PLANTING FOR POLLINATORS
What can we do to give our local pollinators the extra boost they so urgently need? Lawns, landscapes, and watering, plus native trees and plants specifically for us here in Michigan are all included in this thought-provoking multimedia presentation.

LET IT BEE!
Custom deigned STEM-based lessons to help students understand the role of pollinators, how they live among us and how we can help them. May through September it is possible to schedule the visit with an observation hive of live honeybees. Presentations can also be aligned with specific grade level objectives.
Audience: Pre-K through 6th grade
HOW/WHY BEES MAKE HONEY
Apis is Latin for “bee.” Mellifera is Latin for “honey-making.” Learn why this bee species is the only insect to make honey reserves for humans to share, how the honeybee got to the U.S. and the complex process bees use to create and preserve their liquid gold.
